Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons

May 06, 2016 by Elizabeth Bohr

My husband has been asking me to make cream cheese wontons forever! Since this isn't something I grew up eating I was not really in a rush to try them.  I love avocado and lime so I thought that would be a great combo with the vegan cream cheese.  I topped my wontons with a sweet chutney and Oh-My-Goodness were these DELICIOUS! These would be an awesome party app but we just ate a big ole plate of 'em for dinner.

Filling

  • I large Avocado
  • 1 jalepeno
  • 1 container vegan cream cheese
  • Juice of one lime
  • ¼ cup red onion
  • Cilanto
  • Salt

Dough

  • 1 1/2 cups floud
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tbs vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp tumeric
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Make the dough first.  First pour the flour into a mixing bowl and add boiling water. Mix with spoon until it is forming a dough.  Add the salt and cold water. Continue to mix until the dough forms.  Knead the dough until it becomes soft.  Add the vegetable oil, tumeric, and garlic powder. Incorporate until mixed in well.  Roll the dough out so its thin and use round cookie cutter.

Now start to make the filling. First, dice jalapeno and heat in pan with oil until soft.

Mash avocado. Add cream cheese and blend.  Add juice of lime and the onions. Add cilantro and salt to taste. Fill wontons with enough to close dough around.

Heat oil on pan on medium heat. Cook each side until a golden brown.

Serving options: mango chutney, lime juice OR sriracha sauce, soy sauce.
